My stainless steel pan sticks. Why is food sticking to my stainless steel pans. Stainless steel pans look smooth but the cooking surface actually has tiny pores. When you heat the pan the steel expands and the pores shrink.
The shrinking pores grip onto the food causing it to stick. To prevent sticking preheat the pan to medium then add ample oil then add the food. Stainless steel pots and pans are incredibly durable and versatile.

Alexandra the solution isnt in adding more fat but rather when you add it. Stainless steel needs to be preheated before you add fat to the pan. This is a big selling point for SS pans.

A Note About Stainless Steel Pans. I did not only pick a Tri-Ply stainless steel pan over a non-stick pan because some lady was not confident in my ability to master it. I did it for the following reasons.
When I thought about the kitchens of my favorite restaurants or my favorite celebrity chefs I recalled that they all used stainless steel pans. One person commented that you can season a stainless steel pan to create a naturally occurring non stick skillet in less then 5 minutes. This individual also stated that I wouldnt need to use oilsbutters to cook my eggs in and that the pan would no longer stick.
I havent used a non-stick pan in nine years. I now use an old cast iron electric griddle a large cast-iron skillet one enameled cast iron dutch oven my favorite and the rest of my skillets and pots are stainless steel. I think my griddle is the Best Electric Griddle and the same with my other pots.
For that reason I try to avoid cooking with non-stick pans. But it can definitely be a pain to scrape eggs or other meals off a stainless steel pan. I set out to find out how to make a stainless steel pan non-stick and I cant believe it was so easy.
